Dishonored 2 was one of the best games last year: if you didn’t play it on the PC. If you did play it on PC — at least when it first launched — you will remember it suffered from a slab of performance and input issues. In short, it didn’t run well.
And while those problems have since been addressed, it has left a few gamers hesitant about the developer’s (though it’s important to note that Prey is being developed by the developer’s second studio in Austin, not the studio who worked on Dishonored 2) next project: Prey, which releases on May 5th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
According to Arkane Creative Director Raphael Colantonio the team at Arkane is well aware of the issues Dishonored 2 had on PC at launch, and it has “doubled [its] thoroughness]” in the game’s testing to make sure the same doesn’t happen with Prey.
In fact, Colantonio says the team is confident Prey can avoid the same mistakes, and notes that the game isn’t made on consoles and then ported to PC, but rather it starts on PC. Colantonio adds:
“This time we are, given what happened with Dishonored 2, we doubled our thoroughness in making sure that the game is going to run smoothly. At this point the game is fully ready, but that’s what we’ve been doing for the past months–a lot of tests on different configurations and making sure it works. So we’re pretty confident. You never know. But we’re pretty confident.”
Notably, Dishonored 2 was developed on Arkane’s own Void engine, while Prey was made using CryEngine 3.
As mentioned above, Prey is set to release on May 5th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Personally, it is perhaps my most anticipated game for the remainder of the year.
