The world of Destiny is getting bigger with the Rise of Iron expansion coming next Tuesday, but there’s a lot you can do right now to get ready for the latest addition to Bungie’s popular game. Here’s everything you should do to get ready for Rise of Iron and everything it brings with it to the Destiny universe.
Save your legendary marks and glimmer
Legendary Marks and Glimmer, have always been important to have on hand when new content arrives — even if it’s just to keep player stocked-up with reserve ammo or resources for leveling up gear.
Legendary Marks allow players to buy the weapons and gear from the vendors in the tower and reef, including the factions. Dismantling legendary gear will also provide you with Marks, but it might be better to save some of that gear to dismantle after Rise of Iron arrives, as it’s an easy source of Marks once you blow through the 200 limit cap you have.
Bonus: Try to farm strange coins as well, they always come in handy to buy exotics or infuse them with higher level weapons and gear. They can be found doing the nightfall and Prison of Elders activities.
Clean up your inventory
Now it’s a good time to clean up your vault a bit to make room for all the new gear you’ll get in Rise of Iron. Like a particular weapon, but not satisfied with the perks? Dismantle ir as a sacrifice to the Destiny gods and cross your fingers hoping they will grant you better loot next time around.
One thing to keep in mind, however: Dismantling legendary gear yields Legendary Marks, so if you already have the maximum limit, go buy some stuff with those Marks before dismantling anything. There’s no sense in wasting the Marks.
Another recommendation is to keep all the weapons and gear you have, and dismantle them when Rise of Iron is out. This helps you in getting Legendary Marks (if you don’t have enough), or if you’re nostalgic with a specific weapon (in my case); the vault size helps keeping more items than before.
Bonus: If you have more than one character, you can check the Google Chrome Destiny Item Manager application. In here you will have a general overview of everything you have and it will be easier to decide which things to dismantle and which ones to keep.
Edge out your ranks
By now you know that leveling up your Faction, Vanguard, Crucible, House of Judgment, or Cryptarch rank gets you a sweet reward, so if you want to get the new loot available in Rise of Iron as soon as possible, you should try to build up your rank just shy of hitting the next level. By doing so, you can set yourself up to hit the next level in the early stages of Rise of Iron, and your reward packages will draw from the pool of loot available after the expansion instead of before it.
Save up your legendary and exotic engrams
The most important thing you can do to prepare for Rise of Iron is saving up your engrams. This will give you more opportunities to get new weapons and gear, because the item that an encrypted engram turns into is determined at the moment it’s decrypted, not when you pick it up.
This means that if you bring an encrypted engram to the Cryptarch before the release of the new expansion, you will get items only available before the expansion. However, bringing the same encrypted engram after the expansion is released adds all of the new gear and weapons to the item pool, giving you the chance to get some of that cool expansion items at the beginning of your new adventures.
Stock up with materials
Another set of important items from the universe of Destiny, is the existence of materials in each planet we visit. They help us level up gears and weapons, sometimes making it harder if we don’t have them. We can buy them from the Vanguard Quartermaster located in the Tower Hangar. He gives you 20 pieces of the material for 10 legendary marks (a good use if you are maxed out of them). Other way you can get them is going into each planet and patrol them, they’re all over the map. For Wormspores, you can only get them at the Dreadnaught.
A little extra tip
Thanks to my fellow teammates, I discovered that if you have some the Trials of Osiris bounties completed, you should keep them there; that way when Rise of Iron is out, you can turn them in and get sweet gear and weapons exclusive to that activity.
Also, getting some bounties done – specially the ones that give you most xp – it’s totally recommended. They will help you with the factions leveling because once you turn them in after the expansion you will have the rewards immediately.
So that’s all I got! This is a good starting point for your Rise of Iron preparation. Keep in mind that all of these tips are just recommendations, that way you will spend more time enjoying all the new stuff that’s coming instead of worrying about inventory management or grinding for materials and resources.
