New information was revealed on the possibility of an Xbox One version of Square Enix and Platinum Games’ upcoming title NieR: Automata.
In a new statement given to Express UK, the game’s producer Yosuke Saito said the following about a potential release on Xbox One:
There are currently no plans to release on this platform. The main reason for this is that the Japanese market for Xbox One is not strong, so the decision was made to focus on PlayStation 4 rather than to split our efforts across two platforms. The biggest benefit to developing on one platform is that we did not have to split our time, allowing us to focus more on the quality. It is not about whether one platform is better than the other, it’s that from a development point of view were can devote more time to one platform.
Originally, Saito stated that they were considering bringing NieR: Automata to the Xbox One a few months back. While this no longer seems like the case, the game will still receive support on the PS4 Pro.
The original NieR released on the Xbox 360 back in 2010 and many who had played the game on that platform continued to hope that the sequel would also arrive on an Xbox console. At the very least, it’s good that Saito is coming out with this news now rather than potentially dragging it out for a couple more weeks or months.
NieR: Automata releases on February 23 in Japan and on March 7 in North America for the PS4 and PC.
