It’s unclear where they’re coming from, but some Pokémon GO players have reported that shiny pokémon are appearing in the wild.
According to players posting on the Subreddit, The Silph Road, shiny Magikarp and shiny Gyarados have been randomly cropping up. The odd part is that developer Niantic has been silent about the apparent release, leading some to believe that this occurrence is part of Pokémon GO’s most recent live event.
Recently, Pokémon GO launched the Water Festival event in honor of the game’s water-types, making many of the game’s rarer species a little more prevalent. Since we’ve only seen shiny Magikarp and Gyarados (both water-types), it might imply that the appearance of this normally super-rare version is no coincidence.
However, there seems to be a regular catch when aiming for these shiny visions. Many of the shiny Magikarp people are capturing turn out to be Ditto in disguise only after they’ve been caught. So, it makes us wonder whether Niantic is actually playing some kind of joke.
The Water Festival event will last until March 29.
