Titanfall 2 is looking to be a massive disappointment in terms of sales if the pre-order data we have is any indication. With the recent beta (technically pre-alpha) out for PS4 and Xbox One, we thought we’d take a look at how Titanfall 2 is performing in terms of pre-orders relative to its predecessor and the competition. Below the pre-order data we have for both games starting with Titanfall.
Moving on to Titanfall 2, it is being released on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Theoretically this should bring in much more sales since it is now multiplatform, however this isn’t the case. Looking at the pre-order chart 12 weeks from Titfanfall 2’s launch it doesn’t seem to have even 19k pre-orders on a single platform. This means that the game hasn’t even made the chart yet, which is a huge contrast to the original on Xbox One which was at the #4 position 12 weeks from launch.
The original Titanfall received a massive amount of hype and marketing. Although the game ended up selling millions, the active playerbase seemed to drop off quickly. In fact, Respawn Entertainment even removed the current player-count from the game to try and hide this. Not long after this the game became available on EA Access and was available for as cheap as $5 in various retailers during various sales.
Titanfall 2’s current beta has received a ton of negative reception from the community. Forums such as NeoGaf and Reddit are flooded with gamers expressing disappointment with the game for various reasons. We expect gamers who already pre-ordered the game might actually cancel it due to the negative reception there is around the beta. So it is unlikely the game will enter the pre-order chart until it is much closer to release.
