Titanfall 2 is a mixture of frantic shooting and a relationship between a good pilot – a faithful Titan to embark on an adventure that you will surely not regret.
It is a challenge for some developers to try to innovate in one of the genres that are so in demand today. I mean first-person shooter war games (FPS). This time I had the opportunity to enjoy this game by Respawn Entertainment and Electronics Arts.
Let me start with the best of all, and the thing I admire the most. Titanfall 2 comes out in the middle of two big franchises who are debating between the throne, it is more a duel of “Titans” where the game looks like an ant, if I go deeper to all this I ask myself: What was Respawn Entertainment thinking in launching this game next to Battlefield 1 and Infinite Warfare?
Let’s start by talking a little bit about what for me (very personal opinion) has been the most innovative for a franchise as young as Titanfall and its story mode.
Along with the new generation of consoles, I remember how now something new and innovative comes out. Lots of soldiers climbing walls and fighting in giant robots manipulated by themselves and sometimes by Artificial Intelligence. That was what I liked most about this game, in 2014 it was what I played the most – it was the only game I had – and I had fun without seeing the great critical part that this new franchise offered.
A title without story mode and a poor multiplayer as far as rivals concerned, of artificial intelligence that were more clumsy than the worst noob in the world. It is a simple criticism and is still one of the points that killed what was the beginning of what was something “new and innovative” by Respawn Entertainment. The lack of story and the existence of only multiplayer mode made me feel a little dissapointed.
I do not think to tire them but it is necessary to give a review to those who today still criticize the franchise that revolutionized the futuristic multiplayer mode as we know it today.
“Titanfall was a total vice but it was killed by the lack of story”
Now in Titanfall 2 we have something that goes from being a simple campaign mode to a real story. As the trailers have shown, the whole story is based on the relationship of a pilot who embarks on an adventure with his fellow Titan in his fight against the rebels and looks for a way to know what happened with the resistance.
Very few people know how to appreciate a good campaign / story mode for the simple reason that they are never well worked out and I can only say the following. Respawn Entertainment did not know exactly how to adapt this mode to their franchise and left everything to their creative team – who have done a really special job.
This special work integrates a fight against final bosses, puzzle solving and difficult challenges, making the journey exciting to play and finish.
Something I must confess is that I had very little faith in the game success, and the question that I asked myself was I going to spend the whole game fighting on a Titan? Let me tell you is the opposite of that, in the story you can see a real team work (BT Titan and you) are the best friends and there is that neural connection that makes it really fun. Especially when fighting is not boring, on the contrary you should make use of special tactics with each boss at the end of every chapter, making every encounter a challenge.
The Artificial intelligence in the game is very intense, it doesn’t matter in which difficulty you are playing, you become sometimes desperate because even though you are a skilled player your screen will turn red of all the shots you’re getting
“It’s one of the most frenetic stories I’ve ever seen”
This second delivery of the saga has received a graphic improvement in relation to its successor, between lighting, colors and animations the game is impressive. I could not appreciate the use of HDR since I use a standard version of Xbox One at the time of enjoying it but based on comparison of other versions I see that there’s not a big difference graphics related.
For the current game generation, it remained below the quality of others. Although that does not take away its fun and quality of a shooting game, on the contrary makes it the ideal delivery of shots. The handling of the weapons is impressive although the quality of the audio at the time of the shots is not so original but futuristic.
Let’s talk about multiplayer
I must admit, this multiplayer is more exciting than its previous version – apart from adding more players – we have new gadgets of each driver that make it unique. Teamwork or individual work can allow you to win a match.
Teamwork does its job, it’s something very special when a partner can make your Titan get his life back and help him to take down the enemies. What I found negative was the lack of variety in the multiplayer game modes; some of these modes could have taken more advantage of the game potential.
It is a story worthy for gamers that love a good story mode, shooting game and who looks for some difficulty in achieving what he/she wants in a video game. Titanfall 2 is that game in which you connect and keep playing it until you finish it.
For those sentimental people who like to see how a human and a machine relate during an adventure, and obviously those who like to shoot everywhere, use combat strategies and feel attracted to go more.
Is it worth the investment? I remind you that Titanfall 2 will not have a season pass and that all the content that is added will be free. Enjoy 30 hours of history and games with friends in multiplayer. Personally it is a campaign that I would repeat again and it is a game that I want to keep in my video game library.
