Warframe’s latest expansion, Plains of Eidolon, has launched the free-to-play third-person action game to new heights. After the expansion hit PC on October 12, concurrent player counts hit an all-time high of 121,377 players on Steam, nearly doubling its record from earlier this year and making Warframe the second-highest played free-to-play game currently on Steam. Dota 2 remains the highest played free-to-play game, with a peak CCU of 832,550.
Plains of Eidolon, which added a new area to explore along with more weapons, armor, and a massive new boss, also launched Warframe into Steam Charts’ top five, with players putting more than 40 million hours into the game. Although PC players are the only ones able to enjoy Plains of Eidolon right now, Digital Extremes plans on bringing the massively successful expansion to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players by the end of the year.
